Music As Medicine presents Edward Chilvers: 'The Future Is Polyrhythmic'

Music As Medicine is back with a special one-off event showcasing a very unique musician and composer, Edward Chilvers.

Eddie brought his guitar and stunning voice to perform at the first Music As Medicine in November 2016. Unforgettable songs of beauty, humour and insight into all aspects of the human experience and awakening consciousness.

We've always been excited to bring back this multi-instrumentalist to Manchester to share his incredible compositions on piano - his principal instrument. 

Edward began playing piano at age of four. He was performing at twelve, teaching by fourteen and has been making a living playing and teaching the piano since leaving school at sixteen. But Eddie – a Young Steinway artist - is also a composer seeking to stretch the capacity of what is humanly possible to play on the piano. 

2017 saw the release on Mozart Records of Eddie’s ’12 Etudes’, his series of original piano compositions. The works explore the idea of polyrhythmy – ‘a rhythm which makes use of two or more different rhythms simultaneously’. Each Etude using different rhythmic ratios. There are echoes of Chopin, Debussy and Liszt and the result is beautiful and haunting.

**This event will comprise of 2 live sets with a talk from the artist in between.**

Eddie was hugely inspired by the Bwiti music of Gabon in West Africa, which has an incessant, intense use of polyrhythm via harp, voice, drums and other instruments.
We will share Bwiti music and other relevant influences and examples of polyrhythm in between performances.

The venue: The Anthony Burgess Foundation is an independent educational charity that encourages interest into all aspects of the life and work of the Manchester born author and composer. Eddie will be performing on Anthony Burgess's own Bosendorfer piano.
